The purpose of TradeMark East Africa funded Women in Trade project is to increase women’s participation in intra-East African Community (EAC) regional trade. The project is comprised of several components designed to enhance participant understanding of EAC trade procedures, processes and tools, organize UWEAL members into cooperatives for increased negotiation power, link UWEAL members to policy makers and trade facilitation / export service providers and raise national awareness of the challenges women face as they seek to participate in intra-EAC trade.
The project includes an advocacy component aimed at addressing the Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) that make it difficult for women to participate in regional trade. In the long term, the project will result in increased trade volumes and income from intra-EAC trade for women-in-business in the EAC.
